Guided Breathwork Session

Music and Production: Michael Escamilla

Breathwork Support for 2025

Michael and I are creating regular breathwork recordings that you can download and listen to from the comfort of your home. It’s our gift to you all. Before you practice, be sure you are in good health and able to lie down or sit comfortably for the session. Be sure to hydrate before and after. And, let us know how they go. We have ideas for various types and lengths of sessions. This one is about 15 minutes, a nice timeframe to start.

What Does a Breathwork Session Feel Like?

Breathwork feels like a journey, much like a yoga class or any somatic session. If online, it is best experienced with headphones to block external noise and to accentuate the music / guidance, with an eye mask to remove light, and a yoga or other soft mat so your body can be supported and neck can be straight when lying down. As your breath deepens, it is common for thoughts to slow down, to feel emotionally open, and to experience deep relaxation. Some physical effects include tingling in hands, feet or face, temperature changes, slight euphoria, and rarely visualizations. Some breathers have none of these, others have more than one. All effects dissolve in a minute or two after returning to normal breathing.

Benefits of Breathwork

The benefits of conscious, active breathwork are numerous; research and my clients have reported that breathwork

  • Brings Inner and emotional balance and peace

  • Boosts energy levels, reduces stress, and prevents burnout

  • Increases problem and conflict-solving skills

  • Opens up creativity

  • Expands stress tolerance and resilience

  • Improves our connection with gut feeling

  • Supports self-confidence and the ability to assert oneself.

Recommended Reading & Listening for Breathwork

Breath by James Nestor

For those who want to dig into the history and science, this book is well researched and documented by a journalist who was new and skeptical about breathwork until he researched and experienced all types of breathwork personally. It’s a great read and includes a thorough overview of the breathwork world.

If you are into the neuroscience or breathwork from an athlete’s perspective, then I recommend Dr. Andrew Huberman’s various podcasts on the subject.

For me, breathwork was instrumental in helping process past traumas so that I was no longer triggered or thrown off by the actions or reactions of others. I had moderate success with talk therapy, EMDR, yoga, and meditation. Somehow breathwork offered the exact combination that my body and spirit needed. The research now supports breathwork as a healing modality for various types of trauma, as it can help the body release stored memories, deactivate triggers, and create emotional equilibrium and resilience.

Safety Protocols: You shouldn’t practice active breathwork with the following conditions:

  • Pregnancy

  • Glaucoma, detached retina

  • Cardiovascular disease

  • Recent Surgery

  • Untreated seizure disorder

  • History of psychiatric disorders

I’m interested, but a Little Scared…

The good news is that you are in control of your own experience with breathwork. If I or any facilitator guides you to hold your breath, deepen or speed up your breath, it is an invitation, not a directive. So, it’s important for you to remain an active participant in the process. I will always guide with safety (emotional, physical, spiritual and mental) in mind.
