“Just think positive thoughts.” “Set goals for yourself.” “Be patient.” Many of us have been taught to work hard on our thoughts or get motivated to improve our emotional state, our physical health and our spirit. Yet, we still feel in a funk, overwhelmed by the circumstances in our life. It has been my experience even after years of talk therapy, to-do lists, and patience, I had my biggest insights, physical health and emotional wellbeing when I gave my mind a chance to take the back seat and allowed my body to release. Yes, consistency is hard. I’ve built up consistency in certain areas by releasing my inner critic that used to get down on myself when I miss a day or two. I always ask myself “what would make me feel good right now?” Yes, seems like retreats can be really helpful for restarting or recalibrating our practice. Also, just removing distractions. It’s so much easier for me here acquired environment than it was when I was living in the bay area.
